During a routine maintenance of aircraft tanks, a major commercial carrier needed to vent residual jet fuel vapors from the wing tanks. Like all tanks and vessels filled with any type of fuel, the possible release of jet fuel fumes created an explosion hazard. For this reason, the airline operator contacted Fox to supply a venturi air ejector to capture these vapors before release to atmosphere. This solution, once intended only to mitigate an explosion hazard, now has a dual function – to capture greenhouse gas and decarbonize ground-based maintenance. Fox supplied a small 1-1/2” ejector supplied with air at 20 psig. This ejector was originally designed in 2004 and has been supplied often to many of the airlines’ maintenance facilities all over the world.
